FISHING TIPS Avoid Braided Line Split Ends Recipe submitted by Richard J. Berger of Brooklyn, N.Y.
If you fish high-strength, low-stretch braided lines, you know that making a clean cut when tying on hooks and lures is no easy matter. Razor blades are hazardous, and scissors that become dull can fray the ends. One solution is to use a pair of compact nail cutters used to groom cats and dogs. They are available at many pet stores. The cutters are razor sharp, but by virtue of their design, pose little danger for accidents. They cut through braided lines quickly and cleanly, so you don’t have to worry about frayed ends. The cutters also fit easily into a shirt pocket or small tackle tote.
